State-owned telecom provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has rolled out festive tariff discounts alongside critical updates regarding indigenous 4G deployment and upcoming 5G readiness. Speaking to media correspondents, BSNL Chennai Principal General Manager Bhaskaran outlined key network expansion milestones and detailed every new bsnl offer designed to deliver affordable connectivity to consumers across Tamil Nadu.
Festive Tariff Details
- Promotional ₹1 SIM Activation: Subscribers can take advantage of a limited-period bsnl offer providing a new SIM connection for ₹1 with 24 days of validity, including unlimited voice calls, 1 GB of daily high-speed data, and 100 SMS per day.
- Fiber Broadband Price Reductions: For home internet users, a fiber-to-the-home bsnl offer reduces the standard ₹499 monthly broadband plan to ₹399, delivering a recurring ₹100 monthly discount across the first three billing cycles.
- Extended Long-Term Validity: A high-end prepaid recharge bsnl offer applies to the ₹2,399 annual plan, granting an extra 45 days of validity to expand total coverage from 365 days to 415 days.
Indigenous 4G Deployment and 5G Migration
Addressing infrastructure timelines, network officials confirmed that the current rollout utilizes end-to-end indigenous network architecture developed under the Make in India initiative:
- Tower Upgrades in Chennai: Out of 1,900 planned telecom towers across Chennai, 1,200 locations have been fully commissioned with 4G coverage. Work on the remaining 700 towers is scheduled for completion within six months to eliminate network dark zones.
- Streamlined 5G Software Upgrade: Network field tests and trial runs have been completed. Once the 4G infrastructure stabilizes across all operational sites, the operator will enable 5G capabilities nationwide through direct software updates on the indigenous stack.
Consistent Subscriber Expansion
The continuous rollout of each new bsnl offer has supported steady user acquisition throughout the region. The Chennai telecom circle reports adding approximately 10,000 new prepaid subscribers each month, securing a total of over 120,000 customer additions over the preceding operational year.
