Most leading smartphone brands recorded year-on-year market share declines in Q2, while Vivo remained the market leader and Apple and Samsung gained ground.

Smartphone sales in India declined significantly during the April-June quarter, with most major brands recording year-on-year market share losses. Vivo retained the top position, while Samsung and Apple were among the few brands to register growth during the quarter.

Vivo led the Indian smartphone market with an 18.4% market share, although its share declined 13.9% compared with the same quarter a year earlier. Samsung ranked second with a 16.4% share and recorded a marginal 0.4% increase year-on-year.

Oppo held the third position with a 13.8% market share, down 8.5% from the previous year. Xiaomi accounted for 9.7% of the market, marking a 10% decline. Realme ranked fifth with a 9.3% share after registering a 14.2% year-on-year decline.

Apple ranked sixth with an 8.5% market share, up 0.7% compared with the previous year. Motorola followed with an 8.2% share, down 8.9%. Poco ranked eighth with 3.7%, recording a 12.3% decline, while OnePlus held a 2.7% share. iQOO recorded a 1.9% market share after a sharp 61% decline.

The remaining smartphone brands collectively accounted for 7.4% of the Indian market. The figures indicate that the decline was spread across several major brands, with only a few companies managing to increase or maintain their market positions during the quarter.

The market slowdown comes at a time when smartphone prices have increased due to a shortage of memory chips. Higher component costs can put additional pressure on manufacturers and consumers, particularly in price-sensitive segments of the Indian market.

The Q2 figures therefore point to a challenging period for smartphone manufacturers, with Vivo continuing to lead despite a decline in its share. Samsung and Apple were notable exceptions among major brands, while several Chinese smartphone makers experienced significant year-on-year reductions in market share.
