Chennai, June 4: Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a scathing attack on the state government, questioning its performance during the first 25 days of its tenure. Speaking at a thanksgiving meeting organized for DMK functionaries in the Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni constituency, Udhayanidhi asked whether the administration had successfully implemented even a single meaningful scheme since assuming office. His remarks came as political debates over governance and public welfare continue to intensify in the state.
Addressing party cadres, Udhayanidhi alleged that the government has failed to translate its promises into action and accused it of relying on announcements rather than implementation. He questioned the effectiveness of the administration’s approach and claimed that the government had not demonstrated any significant achievement that directly benefited the public during its initial weeks in power. According to him, the expectations created among voters have not been matched by visible results on the ground, leading to growing concerns about the government’s ability to deliver on its commitments.
The DMK leader also referred to the proposed “Singappen” scheme and alleged that the government had merely attempted to rebrand existing ideas without putting forward a concrete execution plan. He claimed that despite public statements and assurances, the administration had been unable to successfully roll out the scheme. Criticizing what he described as a lack of administrative efficiency, Udhayanidhi argued that governance requires more than publicity and announcements. He maintained that people expect tangible outcomes, welfare measures, and development initiatives rather than repeated promises that fail to materialize.
Taking his criticism a step further, Udhayanidhi described the present administration as a “Sofa Model Government,” suggesting that it lacks the urgency and effectiveness required to address public issues. The phrase quickly drew attention at the gathering, with party workers responding enthusiastically to his remarks. He contended that an active government must focus on solving people’s problems, implementing welfare schemes, and ensuring that policy decisions translate into real benefits for citizens. According to him, the current administration has so far fallen short of those expectations.
The comments come at a time when political rivalry between the DMK and the ruling dispensation continues to dominate public discourse in Tamil Nadu. Leaders from both sides have frequently exchanged criticism over governance, welfare initiatives, and development policies.
