Led by Annamalai, the ‘We The Leaders’ convention in Pollachi outlined a comprehensive six-point strategy, including a ban on new bar licenses, to eradicate the drug menace in Tamil Nadu.

POLLACHI: In a significant public mobilization effort to combat the growing menace of substance abuse in Tamil Nadu, the ‘We The Leaders’ organization, spearheaded by Annamalai, passed six comprehensive resolutions against drug addiction during its major conference.

The convention, held in Pollachi, served as a platform to address the urgent social issue of drug proliferation. The primary focus of the gathering was to establish a unified front against narcotics, culminating in a series of targeted demands aimed at both government policy reform and widespread community awareness.

The core of the conference was defined by the six resolutions adopted by the members. These include a mandate to observe every July as “White Band” month, encouraging citizens to take a formal pledge against drug usage. Furthermore, the resolutions urged the state government to immediately remove TASMAC liquor shops located in the vicinity of educational institutions and places of worship, and to strictly crack down on the black-market sale of illicit substances.

To ensure sustained monitoring and action at the grassroots level, the organization formally demanded the creation of dedicated anti-drug committees across all districts in Tamil Nadu. The resolutions also strongly opposed the expansion of alcohol availability, urging authorities to halt the issuance of new licenses for recreation club bars. The ultimate vision outlined by the organization is to transform Tamil Nadu into a pioneering model state for drug eradication at the national level.

Reinforcing this mission, all participants at the venue took a solemn collective oath to completely abstain from drugs. Alongside these policy demands and public pledges, Annamalai officially released the ‘We The Leaders’ mobile application to streamline communication and further the group’s social initiatives.

The Pollachi conference, which was broadcast live to a broader digital audience, marks a structured and escalating campaign against substance abuse in the region. By outlining specific, actionable demands and introducing digital tools for broader engagement, the movement seeks to apply sustained pressure on regulatory authorities while fostering a grassroots cultural shift toward a drug-free society.
